The composition and volume of waste depend on the consumers’ behavior in the society, as well as on the existing industrial and economic activities functioning in a given country.

Waste can be composed of undesirable substances and other products resulting from industrial processes, agriculture or households.

Depending on the properties and the place of occurrence, waste can be divided into hazardous and non-hazardous. The hazardous waste is toxic, flammable, corrosive and reactive and as such, poses substantial or potential threat to public health and natural environment. The non-hazardous waste is the one that has not been initially classified as hazardous waste.

The need of waste management dates since the existing of the first cities in the history. Waste disposal in the history was achieved using the rivers, but today the waste is carefully disposed in processes on ways that will not harm the environment.
